International Chocolate Awards announce World Final winners

The judging of the World Final of the International Chocolate Awards took place during Chocolate Week, with the results announced at Chocolate Unwrapped. British chocolatiers led the way in the filled chocolate categories, with Paul a Young and Damian Allsop both winning Golds, while the bars winners revealed these are exciting times for chocolate makers in the Americas.

Hundreds of products were entered from around the world and judged by a panel of experts in regional rounds in Italy, UK, America and Canada. Over a hundred products won awards and were entered into the World Final which took place in London during Chocolate Week. These prestigious awards give out just one Gold in each category and a number of silvers to only the world's finest chocolate.

The honour of Best dark bar in the world went to Pacari 70% RAW – this tree-to-bar chocolate produced in Ecuador is not only made with unroasted beans but is also one of the very first biodynamic bars. Pacari also picked up Best dark flavoured bar for their Lemongrass bar as well as a number of Special awards and Silvers.

Paul A Young triumphed in the Plain dark truffle category, winning Gold for his 85% RAW Ecuadorian dark chocolate truffle, with Damian Allsop and Rococo Chocolates both picking up Silvers. Paul a Young also won best Dark caramel for his Sea salted caramel.

Damian Allsop’s Salty Liquorice water ganache was named Best Flavoured dark filled chocolate, with Silvers going to Boutique Aromatique’s Mint & sweet basil and Rococo’s Rose & cocoa nib ganache.

The winner of the Best Milk bar was Michel Cluizel’s Maralumi, a 47% from the renounced French chocolate maker.

It was fantastic to see so many exhibitors at Chocolate Unwrapped proudly displaying their “International Chocolate Award winner” signs from the regional and world rounds and we can’t wait to see what will come top next year, with even more national competitions taking place around the world.
